First full tank on the new rubber:

Trip odo miles: 277.1 x 1.1 (based on GPS calculated actual speed) = 304.8 miles

Fill was 15.1 gallons

MPG on 33's with 4.10's in the punkins is 20.18

I will continue to monitor and post results, but that's not too bad. Definitely a change, but I expected similar and can certainly live with it. Was averaging about 21.5, so it's a change of about 6%. Considering how much bigger the tires are, that's pretty good. Haven't changed driving styles at all.

I'll keep you posted.

18.46 mpg last tank. Thinking it's winter fuel blend? But not sure.. seems to be running about the same, maybe just a hair more power than it's had even. Oil consumption remains.... high.

In other news, did some work today.

Got my dad's trailer finally for a couple weeks so I can finally part out my parts pile and get ride of it! Weather was mostly OK today, only got rained on a little bit.

Loaded on the trailer

Started tearing down

All disassembled and ready to go to the recycler

My 4.56's, and some other parts (control arms) that I'll be using for a future Project Mayhem.... mwu ha ha ha ha!

I do agree cleaning up feels good, but in this case... its prep for some additional members of the family..... remember that Supra I posted a while back.....

I actually waited to get the trailer on hand before tearing it apart for the exact reason you will have a hard time moving your Trekker without axles. Had a rolling chassis, rolled it up onto the trailer, then disassembled it. I thought I was being pretty clever... You could always find a forklift?

Here's the current plan, let me know what you think:
  1. Save some money (about $1k)
  2. Get an ARB installed in the rear 3rd
  3. Swap the rear 3rd and front axle in to my truck for 4.56's
  4. hook you up with my old front axle?
Not sure your timing, I'm probably a solid 6 months out on the above listed. Also, if you need the 4.56s, no dice. But if you want wait, you'll be welcome to 4.10 axle in there now. Thoughts?

Hahaha. Nah, man I was just kidding. I'd like to score a set of 4.88s but I'll take a 4.56 set if I could find it cheap enough locally. I already have 4.30s stock in the runner. BUT thanks for the offer!

Uh oh.. look what showed up in my garage yesterday..

1987 Toyota Supra Turbo with a 5 speed. Needs a little work..

It's no 4runner but it might be a distraction from my current project. Still have work to do on the 4runner so don't worry about that..

Really excited for this little score, should be running fairly easy. Of course, those are famous last words....

I promise the 4Runner will continue to get progress.

For now if you're interested, Supra build thread is here: MKIII Turbo incoming

Anecdote, ran through a speedometer test on I5 the other night, found out my calculations have been pretty much spot on. Ran 4.5 miles in a 5 mile test. That comes out to 90% of rated speed, or 10% off as I thought. Good to have that verified. Now I just have to remember not to speed...

That is great you can get all 3 car seats in the back. Tight fit I am sure. We like the 4Runner since it seems to have a little more room in the back than my wife's forester with my grandson's car seat. We don't
have to have the passenger seat as far forward.

ALways nice to find out how far off your speed is.

Very nice on the score. How'd that go domestic-wise?

She's known I've wanted one forever. She's known this one was sitting at my buddy's house for 2 years. It was a matter of time. I think I waited long enough that she was surprised it didn't happen sooner

Doing a little experiment. After my drop in milage, for my theoretical "winter gas blend", wanted to give something a shot. There's a gas station I drive by on my way home that sells pure 92 octane gas, no ethanol. Price is a little insane, but some am I, and I figured why not, so I'm going to run a tank of it and see what happens. It was over $4.50/gal so it's unlikely I'll be repeating this, unless I get about 40 mpg, but I thought for one tank I'll see what changes. Will post up my findings.

Also, here are some snow pics from the other day, forgot to post.

Nice part of my drive during Snowpocalypse 2016. Was not to last...

Those 3 cars you see on the left are all spun out. It's amazing what a 1/2" of snow does to traffic in the Portland area!!

2 tractor-trailers and about 8 passenger cars all choking up this intersection. Actually, it was amazing it only took 20 minutes to get through there!

Back in the barn

Oh and a cool sunset from my trip to Seattle the other day. Could not get my phone to really cooperate but it was a really cool view.
