Anyone running an hour meter?

I'm just curious if anyone else runs an hour meter in their Toyota

The "white" hour meter was a digital unit - installed in the first or second year I had the 4Runner. It had a lithium batter to "hold" the memory.
The battery finally gave up the ghost during its long time in barn storage
It has some 9410.4 hours at the last tank of gas prior to storage.
I vaguely recall spending like $40 for that meter back then (1990?)

The new meter was like $10, via eBay

Maybe if I was able to install on a new vehicle or if I ever swapped in a new motor, but otherwise I wouldn't. Unless I loved to a big city where I had to sit in traffic consistently.

Just curious why do you spend hours with the engine running at idle or even high idle more then driving ??

Then I could see a need to change the oil by hours instead of miles.

I was just curious about mileage vs hours.
I had the gauge in there from when the truck was relatively new, so all my gas logs list the hours and thus the avg speed per tank as well as the MPG.

I really do NOT do maintenance based on the hours vs based on the mileage.
