Smile GM igniter 16.96 for Toyota igniter 457$ WORKS

Hi guys
Well my igniter failed yet AGAIN (3rd time in my 85) and the dealer wants 457$ for it. I just can't stand it anymore! I had heard but never substanciated that an early GM module works in place of the overpriced Toyota igniter. I did some research and found that any HEI GM module with 4 pins will work and I went to Auto Zone and bought one for 16.95 brand new. It took about 2 hours and a soldering iron, 2 screws and 1 1000 ohm 1/4 watt resister and installed it in place of the old Toyota module inside the metal housing. Its a tight fit and I had to trim the contacts a bit but it fit. I plugged her in. My truck fired right up! Yeah, 16.95 instead if 457$. My tack even works. I think this only works on trucks with a carburator because the FI trucks need timing pulses too.

Does anyone know if this can be done with an 88 4runner V6?
