For all of you Adobe Photoshop users; How to make a great avatar

I have had adobe photoshop for a while, started with version 4 and now have CS2 anyhoo, I had always been troubled how to make an avatar in photoshop. It's near impossible to try to resize an image just opening the image. The huge, special trick is;
-Open the picture
-Go to file, then go to Save for web, it's two spots below the Save As option
-Then on the right side, half way down, click on the image size option.
-Set the size needed
-at the bottom left it shows the size of the file that will be created, if it's too big
-Go to just above the image size menu, and adjust the quality, high or very high should get the file size just right

This was the case for CS and CS2 I didn't find it till I started using CS so I'm not sure if it is and option on older versions, but I'd imagine it would be.

If you do some serious editing in photoshop, then yeah. It has a sweet new part called merge to HDR. Here's the link http://luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/hdr.shtml

There are quite a few things that I use that were not on CS, but once again, you have to do a lot of editing such as the HDR thing to make it worth while. Unless you can get a free copy....but of course I didn't do that....

Isn't it now?

I love it! Especially the merge to HDR, because it can give you images such as this:

It's not an option for me either... Not on the original pic or one that was already resized. Any ideas folks?
