Wiring Harness Change?
#1
At one time I drove a '90 4Runner, and was running a JVC Kameleon Head Unit that I had prfessionally installed. I recently purchased a choice 99 Limited 4Runner, and I am trying to transfer the deck over. The harness doesn't seem to fit. Did Toyota change their harness between 90 and 99? And if so, what would be the best item to buy? I called up Circiut City to ask them, and the dude told me to throw away my old harness, and that my best option was to buy a JVC to Universal Harness, and then a Universal to Toyota Harness. Is all of that really necessary, especially if I already have that harness for the 90? Thanks.

I cut a few of the wires on the factory toyota harness, and reattached them straight across to the JVC harness. It works great, but besides possible splicing problems, are there any other forseeable problems in the future with this?

yes, it's a PITA if you have to work on it afterwards...
the dummies that installed my system back in early 90s, the insurance job was mid 4 figures and they couldnt spend another $15 for a wiring harness.... ARGGGGGGGGGG

now i do like the UNIV harness. when i was putting together the system in my subaru, they told me about that.
that was kinda cool. couldnt care less that it cost an extra $16.
it plugs straight into the my sony head. that terminated with a univ plug.
then the car spec harness connects to that univ plug and then to the car itself...
NO CUTTING OR SPLICING...
