Computer installs

Anyone have any luck installing a mac mini or tiny PC system in a DIN slot? Im tempted to try... a little worried about consistent and clean power supply.

The best advice anyone can give you is to wander over here: http://mp3car.com. There is a TON of information over there, it helped me to sort out what I ultimately needed to pull together.

My install is here:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f96/another-toy-mark-carpc-91159/

The PC itself has been updated since the pics, but the links are correct.

Mac vs PC will be a semi-easy choice, there's not a lot of frontend software out there for OS X, but there's a good amount around for Linux if you're willing to go that route. There's a TON of stuff for Windows.

Power wise is pretty easy actually. The MP3Car.com store has a number of DC->DC converters that will handle automated shutdown and power conditioning.

Your first step is to wander MP3Car.com. Sit and absorb and wander the pics of people's installs to get an idea of what others have done.

i would devote the dash realestate to doing a screen rather than housing the system. i have mine under the seat, many put theirs in the rear cargo area.

thats the pics from my install, but it is of course ever changing, and i will eventually have a proper mount for the screen (that gooseneck has turned out to be a nightmare!) if i get my welder plug in.

in any case, this is my 3rd install in cars i own, ive totalled 5 (helped on a bunch so im combining them into 2 full installs).
