I'm about to install an amp I had in my old truck in my 4runner I just bought. The truck had a Pioneer deck with RCA outputs for the amp. The deck went with the truck and the 4runner has the factory stereo. I'd like to hookup the amp to that stereo but I'm not sure if that's possible, or where I'd get the line signal even. I know the amp has RCA and speaker cable looking inputs. Anyone ever done this before?

 

Yep, you can purchase a speaker output to line level converter cheaply. Works pretty well. Used one to install an MA Audio amp to a Ford Factory radio.

Oh...go to the www.the12volt.com site if you need the wire out diagram from the factory radio to see what the wire colors are to attach to the amp or adapter.

 

So do you lose signal to a set of speakers or does it just borrow the signal off the deck then sent it to the speakers?

 

It just borrows some signal.

Does anyone know where I can get a wire harness to modify? I don't want to cut and solder the stock wiring harness. I want something to plug between the stock radio and stock harness. There are plenty of wiring harnesses to plug into the stock harness. I need another one to plug into the stock radio.

I purchased a converter at a local car audio place. I spent like 40 bucks or so. Probably could have gotten it cheaper on-line but I figured those guys would steer me right, I've dealt with them before. Anyhow, I plan on mounting the converter under the drivers seat along with my amp and just tapping into the rear door speaker wires. The converter I got has the remote wire for the amp on it so I'll just run one power and one ground for both units. Now I just need a real slick way to run my iPod instead of using that old casette adapter. I thought of using a phono (RCA) male to 1/8" male cord and phono splitters at the amp and totally by-passing the radio but I forgot that I'm not powering all of the speakers with the amp right now. Anybody pondered on this much?
