I just picked up a new Alpine CDA 9831 head unit and installed it. My 6 year old CDA 7844's display has been out for 6 months and it was time for an upgrade. I picked it up brand new as a leftover last year's model for $250.00. It seemed pretty cheap as it was regularly $380.00 at the shop.

 

I picked up the same model last spring for $280 shipped and I think you'll really like it;lots of features for a great price. I also added a Bazooka EL series 250w amp and an MTX 10" sub and even with just the stock speakers it sounds decent.

 

I'm impressed with it so far. It seems like a lot of bang for the buck. I like the tilt feature of the face. It's hard to believe how far car stereo has gone.

 

Also don't forget the 512 different hues of the rainbow you can use to customize your buttons.

I also like the feature that turns off the main display to enhance sound quality but shows up with any touch of the buttons for 5 seconds. Sometimes those displays can be distracting.

 

The color thing is pretty wild. There are also a lot of fine tuning audio options to mess around with.
