2003 audio question
I have an '03 4Runner with the stock stereo. I would like to upgrade the headunit but still be able to use the buttons for audio control on the steering wheel. Is there any aftermarket units out there that would let me do this ? New speakers would be nice too.
BTW, who makes the stock head unit and speakers?

to answer your last question, from what i understand, toyota (and all other manufacturers) contract a company to make a generic stereo system to be used universally in their cars under the toyota brand. so essentially, toyota makes the stock stereo.
the only case this isnt true, is when you option to upgrade to a name brand one (nakamichi, jbl, bose, etc).

try doing a quick search and you'll find the info you're looking for.

Something like this will retain your steering radio control. Easy to install as well. This way you can add any aftermarket radio and speakers. I have stock speakers on aftermarket radio btw. It's okay for now but limited funds... ya know
Also do a search on radios as there has been lots of radio installs on this site. They have details pix and everything from what you need, trim kit, harness etc etc. Chris "impulsebrkyln" was one of the first members that did the radio install (swapped radio and speakers) so check him out as well (goto members and search for him nickname - he has a site up too that has info!)
good luck
