Getting some manual hubs tomorrow. 54mm spindle nut from donor vehicle?
So I'm picking up a set of aisin manual hubs tomorrow for $60(finally, I hate losing 4wd in reverse), I know I need the 54mm nuts and washers to swap my auto hubs out on my 87. Couldn't I just use the nuts and washers from the donor vehicle? Or is there some reason I cant? I've tried searching but everyone seems to buy a new kit for it. If this is something I can do, exactly what do I need to get from the donor to complete the swap? The hubs are supposed to be in good working condition. I know I will need to buy new hub gaskets(probably just get them from the yota dealer in Redlands), but I feel like I should be able to get everything else from the donor to keep my budget down. Any input would be appreciated since I'm doing this tomorrow around 2:30.

Any good nuts that are not all beat up will work.
Quite a few Hammer and Chisel mechanics .
All the parts that you remove to get the hubs off take home with you minus the wheel bearings unless you want them.
Good time to repack the bearings.
Have you given any thought to getting the cone washers loose
I have never put gaskets back on hubs ever just a little silicone

Thanks for the reply wyoming9
Unfortunately I went to autozone, orielys, Napa, and some smaller auto part stores in the area and nobody had 54mm sockets, not even for rent. Then I found out that I could use a 2 1/8 if they aren't too beat up, so I called all those stores and they didn't have that either. Had a ton of 2 1/4+. So as much as it killed me I had to leave the free spindle nuts and washer behind. He didn't have any crescents or monkey wrenches that went past 2" and I didn't want to do the chisel method.
So now I have some hubs that I can't put on until I order the nut/washer/socket combo. I noticed on wabfab I can either get the parts in a kit for $35 or add the exact same parts separately into my cart and save $2? Thought that was weird.
So I'm going to order that and have to wait for it to show up.
Now what exactly are you talking about for the cone washers? He pulled the hubs before I got there and he gave me 12 small come washers that go on the studs that hold the hub bodies on. Are there other cone washers?
And what do you think is best to pack the bearings with? I have some moly-grease but I'm not sure if that's what you would suggest
Thanks again
Oh and for gaskets all I could get was the round ones, they had to order the o-rings and gaskets so I figured I would skip it. I will just use some tv for the stars and I have a set of decent orings at home if the ones in the hubs are trashed(guy I bought the truck from told me there was a set of aisin manual hubs in the box of parts he gave me but the were just the dials and faceplates, no hub bodies and gears)

For what it is worth Many of US have been burned bad by WAB FAB!!
No those are the cone washers I was talking about.
I bought my last 54MM socket of off Amazon Pretty decent price They get borrowed and never come home.
Wheel bearing grease to pack the bearings .Because of the temperatures from the front disc brakes The wrong grease just turns liquid and makes a mess.

Thanks for the heads up, I noticed that he was banned on either this site or another site I use, but I figured it was for how often he flamed people that asked questions that had already been covered.
I was already hesitant to give money to someone who seemed so unhelpful to new guys.
Mind me asking how he burns people business wise?
Any suggestions on where I should order the spindle nuts and washers from? Toyota of Redlands wanted $45 for one side haha!

Wish I could give the ups guy a beer
Nothing wrong with coming home to a little box full of the parts you ordered sitting on the door step, and with free stickers!

And for $35.64 to my door I got 4 new spindle nuts, 4 new washers and the enormous socket that no auto parts stores near me carry!
I can't believe the dealer wanted $90 for just the nuts and washers.
Going to throw these on Wednesday. Can't wait, this cold weather makes my passenger side auto hub start to lock up when I'm not in 4wd, has to be bad for my cv shaft

While he can`t drink a beer a few $$$ goes along way toward super service.
I give my UPS driver about a $100.00 over the course of the year.
those people work hard through the Holiday season.
