22re and 35s?
#1
I have a 94 pickup with a 22re and 5 speed. I have 31 BFGs on it now and at 55mph im running 2500 RPMs, but in even as little as wet dirt (not enough to call mud) im red lining in 1st and stalling out when i shift to 2nd. I was planning on doing a v8 swap out but im leaning towards keeping the 22re, but i need 35s at minimum. I was thinking 5:29 gears and it would pull them but how much top end will i be losing?? even with the 4:10 gears im turning more RPMs than i would like to at 55mph

I have 5.29's and when I had 35's my tired 22re had lots of power. It would be back to stock gearing with stock tires basically. I could use 5th gear on highway and cruise up hills without too much problem. I have 40's now and same gears I really don't use 5 th gear anymore on the road. I also don't drive much on the road anymore . Just every now and then in the summer . It's still not too bad!

I had an 86 with a 22re stock gearing and 35s and it was a dog on the road. 55 top speed in third gear, but I had the trail gear dual case set up and it was great off road. I had planned on gearing 4.88 just because I've heard the 5.29s can have a tendency to break. but stereoguy was spot on with 5.29s and 35s it should be about stock gearing.
