I had a look at this a little while back but although he said on the phone it wasnt badly rusted, I travelled 3 hrs to find it was eaten all over with rust. Its an '81 3ltr diesel BJ40 and it was for sale for €900 which is probably $1,000 give or take a few bananas. Note the large panel over the rear arch which appears rust free- its just a riveted on piece of galv sheeting

I wouldn't buy it but only because the seller lied to you and you traveled 3 hours to find that out.

IF you get it, hope you have the time and $$$ for the restoration... or you could salvage the parts.

I wouldn't buy based on its level of corrision and the expensive costs of fixing a diesel engine. Perhaps the owner would reconsider the price over a pint.

I wont buy it, its too much work, too rust eaten. The engine though seemed fine.

When I sat into it I looked over my shoulder and saw the top half of one of the rear wheels coz there wasnt an arch there anymore.

Maybe next time
