I'm pretty sure they had diesel motors, but what kinds of tranny's were offered, axles, etc..... I've seen one in town, but can never get close enough to check it out. I really like them, and know i could pick one up for $5000 or so.... just wondering if it would be worth it to get one and turn it into a nice trail/rockcrawling rig.....

they all have the 3B 4 cylinder 3.4 litre diesel engine and all have 5 speed manual transmissions and 4.11 gears in the differentials. They are very solid trucks, but like all land cruisers can be very susceptible to rust. I've always liked them as well, but now in Canada we're seeing more and more imported BJ73 and BJ74s that make the BJ70 seem like second class. If you do look into getting a BJ70, 1985 was the only year that Toyota used a 12V electrical system which makes it more desirable in my opinion.
