2025 Tacoma SR5
Has less than 2000 miles and Check Engine light came on. DTC Code 02 (not O2). Dealership said it's from road damage to engine and not covered under warranty. My daughters truck, she said she didn't run over anything or hear anything. $6000 estimate. Runs fine except Auto trans hunts for gear. Thoughts?
Edit: Revised estimate $800 because mouse ate wiring from being parked outside. Damn mice!
Update#2 Day 3 at Toyota dealership and they can't find the cause of recurring code 02.
Update#3 Dealership said O2 sensor is defective and covered under warranty. Part is ordered and will be ready on day 5.

I inspected under the hood... No evidence of mice turds or anything similar. My guess is the Toyota dealership read these forums and responded by replacing the defective downstream O2 sensor under warranty instead of bilking the owner out of thousands of dollars of unneeded work. It pays to be a retired mechanic with 40 years experience to keep my daughter from being ripped off. BTW... the dealer in question is where I bought my 1992 P/U and wanted to buy it back to show off in their showroom. 1992 with 70k original owner miles.

While dealing with this, I was also researching an instant home offer in Houston. It pays to be a retired mechanic with 40 years experience to keep my daughter from being ripped off. Why is there a weird home buying link embedded in your quote?
