I dinged my rim so bad wheeling that the shock wave must have weakened the closest wheel lug. When I took the wheel off to have it replaced the wheel lug sheared off with the lug nut. The guys as Discount quoted me 80$ to replace the one lug. Their reasoning wasn't the wheel lug (3$) but the time it takes to replace it because it's a four wheel drive. Does this sound right? Sounds to me like a rip-off. What to do..........................

 

are you talking about the wheel stud? I have some lugs ill sell ya!

defiantely a rip off. It is extremely easy taking the studs off. all u in need is a bfh and a grinder. The wheel studs are a couple of bucks at the dealer.

Is he including lube?

 

i broke a stud off trying to take off the front tire....it was on way too tight. Got another stud and lugnut at advance autoparts for like 5 bucks. All i did was take off the rotor and hammer the stud out.....took like 2-3 hits with screwdriver and hammer. Stick your new stud and in, put your lug on and start tightening it down, when its snug in the back, loosen the lug, put your rotor/caliper back on and your back in business.

 

way to easy to do yourself. 5 minute job (if that) when the tires off!

 

Thanks boys. I should have figured as much. The freak at Discount got me all worried. He's talking about having to take the freakin' hub apart and this and that. All I could do was say to myself "Yeah right, wait til I get home to ask the real professionals." Anyway thanks a bunch. SHould have figured out it was that easy.

 

You'll find a lot of places use the 'it's a 4wd' excuse to jack up the bill

When I had a tire shop break one of my front studs on my 93, I had 2 shops actually turn the job down because it was a Toyota 4x4.

I don't think that $80 is out of line to dissamble the front on your 95, though you may want to ask this question in the 2nd gen forum to know for sure.
