..........the box thing that is attached on the passenger side of the air filter housing....it has a hose that runs from it to the top of the other side of the air filter housing....i couldn't find it in my fsm.....just curious

 

It's a neb˟˟˟˟˟ trap.

Not sure - there's a bunch of junk under there that is emissions based and various sensors 'n stuff. I've yet to learn about half of it.

 

if you post a pic you might get more help, also what year, and engine are we looking at?

 

It is an air resonator.. and it does a lot for noise..I f you remove it and bypass it, you have a noise at closed throttle that sounds like a tractor trailer "jake brake" (no, it does not sound cool..)
