TOYOTA 78 SERIES-Diesel-

I just found my next Toyota. Its a new 78 series Landcruiser-diesel. However its not sold in the US. Do any of you Toyota rep guys think it will ever be sold here?

Not likely. There isnt enough of a market for those here...the general US public would much rather have something blingin' with 24 inch wheels, leather and 56 TVs than a utility vehical like the cruiser.

I'd be in for one though!

I saw a semi with a trailer full of those last week..They do sell them in North America but only commercially like to the mines. Hugley unlikley that they will ever be sold to the average person..and that sucks

I believe you can source FJ70-75's through Canadian importers. Nearly identical body style. They made a Suzuki Sidekick-esque 2-door FJ70 that I'd kill to own.

the 70 series cruisers were sold in Canada in LHD in the mid eighties, best of luck finding one and go buy a lottery ticket that day if you find one that isn't rusted.

Otherwise the RHD ones are Canada only due to it not being possible to import a vehicle into the states that isn't 25yrs old or older unless it was ORIGINALLY sold in that configuration in the US or Canada.

Completely false. It would be incredibly expensive to submit a vehicle for crash testing and modify the emissions system to gain compliance, but I've seen a ton of legally imported and registered Nissans, Hondas, Lotus's, and Toyotas with no American equivalent on the streets of Phoenix and LA.
