Taco cold startup question

My dad just got a used '97 Taco 4cyl 2.4 (22re: I think that's what it is, not sure though). We got all the fluids changed, plugs and had our personal mechanic take a look at it after we bought it. The battery looked kinda old and was having starting problems so we replaced it with a new one from AutoZone. Anyhoo, he's still having a hard time turing the engine over in the mornings. It doesn't get too cold in the mornings here in SoCal so I know that can't be it. When he turns the key all he gets is a clicking sound. He does this a few times and it starts up and starts up great the rest of the day. I'm guessing it might be a bad starter and/or bad starter contacts.

Any other mechanicals we should be checking out or looking at?

Thanks in advance guys!

I think you already answered your own question cause that would be my guess too.

Staring problems are usually a baterie or spark issue. I say check your plugs and check for loose wire heads. Replace if needed.
