Question Question on Tire Size...

Hey, Well since I got so much great help with choosing what shocks to get (I'm going with the Edelbrocks ) I thought that I should ask you what size tires I should get, because it's almost time for me to get new tires. Currently I'm running Dunlop A/T (Radial Runner? I'm not sure of the name of them, but they're Dunlop, and they're All Terrains ) They're 31x10.5 (I think it means that they're 31" High, and 10.5" wide, is how I understand it, I could be wrong, because I measured them and they came out to be like 29" or 30" (Can't remember off hand).

I'm running a '91 4Runner SR5 V6 3.0L Automatic, K&N FIPK Kit, Downey 1.5" HD Rear Coils, and Slightly Cranked SAW Torsion Bars. Since installing the rear coils, and cranking the torsion bars, i've noticed that there's a lot of space in my wheel wells, and it's annoying me I was thinking maybe getting 32s or 33s. My question is will I be able to fit 33s on my truck without any major work (I can handle pounding out my fender wells, or whatever I need to do But I don't want to get a body lift, or something like that). I've also read that if I change the size of my tires that I would need to re-gear my truck. Is that really necessary? And if so about how much would it cost to re-gear so I could run 33s?

Also does anyone know anything about the Procomp X-Terrains? Those are the tires i'm really considering getting, mainly because of the look (hehe yes I'm into how they look ) But also because from what i've read about them they sound like they're perfect for what I do. I do quite a bit of offroading (Local trails, and desert runs, and also the occasional mud spot ) but it's also my only truck, so I need it to take me to and from school, and work, and everywhere in between
Hopefully someone can shine some light on this for me, and help me out
Thanks

-Braden

Tire Size

I'm running 11.5 x 32 BFG AT's on stock 15x8 alloys with a similar suspension setup as yours (PP Coils, slightly cranked stock t-bars and Bilsteins) For most driving, there isn't any rubbing, but in certain situations I do get a little. Mainly under full compression with the wheels turned full lock.

My shop has told me that 33's will fit with "extensive" fenderwell modifications. Anything described as extensive is likely synonymous with expensive. They said a body lift would be a better solution.

In Pennsylvania, we're limited on tire width. The DOT law says that the tire must be completely covered by fender (or flare). I might need to get new wider flares from Iceland!!

I'm not sure about the cost of regearing, but I can tell you that I don't have much power at highway speeds which I've heard is the problem with bigger tires/stock gearing.

Oh okay, I was afraid that if I wanted 33's that I'd have to do some major work for them to fit. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely be going with 32's when I get my new tires Thanks for your help Cebby I think there's a similar law here in California where the tires have to be completely covered by a fender/flare. I rarely have ever had my truck's suspension at full compression, so I think that 32's will work perfect for me
Thanks Again
