Question on tacoma a/c (evaporator & expan valve)

If I have a pretty major leak in either my expansion valve tube (inlet or outlet) or in my evaporator, would this be a possibility why my compressor doesn't kick on when I try and and charge the system. I'm thinking the compressor will shut off, if it isn't getting the necessary freon/oil. Just looking for a confirmation from someone with more experience. Thanks!

I have the same leak. It seems to be in the tube running from the control valve to the hose on the low pressure side. I haven't pulled it apart yet but my guess is it wore a hole in the tube where it passes through the firewall. I'm trying to locate the parts. I'll re-post if I get it fixed in the next few days. Good luck
