More troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've misplaced my shop manual, and all I have is a worthless Haynes manual. My truck is still not running, but I managed to get it started long enough for it to dump the trouble codes to the computer. Problem is I need to know what the codes are for. It's a 1990 22-RE motor, and it showed error codes #13, #14, and #43. Can somebody let me know what these are for, and if anyone wants to throw out guesses as to what the combination means, I'm all ears at this point. I've spent way too much money on this already and just want to get the truck back on the road without taking it back to the shop. Thanks for any help.

Check page 6-37 in your haynes. That is where all the codes should be listed.

The codes are listed in my Haynes, somewhere towards the back, but they are very vague and unhelpful. I was hoping the service manual would give more information. Hopefully someone has a copy and they can let me know.

The truck dont run?? I would not worry about codes at this time I would start with the basics fuel spark and air. Then when its running clear the codes see if they come back and then check them.

Heres somecodes for ya

13 - (system)rpm signal - (diagnosis)no ne signal to ecuwhen engine speed above 100 rpm - (trouble area)distributor circuit- distributor-ecu

14 - (system)ignition signal - (diagnosis)no IGf signal to ecu6-8 times in succesion - (trouble area)igniter and ignition coil circuit- igniter and ignition coil

43 - (system)Starter signal - (diagnosis)no sta signal to ecu untill engine reaches 800 rpm with vehicle not moving - (trouble area)IG switch circuit-IG switch-ECU

Sounds like an ignition problem somewhere. I'd check the igniter pack and the distributor cap.Hope this helps, let us know what it was or if you need anything else.

Steve

Thanks Steve. The distributor is OK, and I checked the other easy stuff (plugs, wires...) when it quit, so on to the ignitor and coil I guess. I got the truck started and it will idle for a bit, but then starts sputtering and dies again. Luckily it's long enough for the computer to reconfirm the same codes. The dork at the Toyota shop in Cleveland (where I broke down) assured me I had a bad EGR valve, but I tested it yesterday, and it functions fine while the truck still runs like crap. Lot of fun working on the truck in the driveway with the weather we're getting here in Maine. I guess I must be getting desperate, I started thinking about making an offer on my neighbors Wrangler.
