Help - installing lift kit on '98

I am trying to install a lift kit on my '98.
I was crawling around under the car to see how tough it was going to be to loosen the bolts holding the body on the frame.
After oiling it a few times, I started to loosen it. It moved, no problem, or so I thought.
As it turns out, the exposed nut was not moving. It seems to be loosening above in the cab. (does this make sense so far?)
Further, after a few turns, it starts to slip, so I decided that I will tighten it back on for now.

1. Is this normal?
2. How do I get these off?

Thanks for the help!

i assume you're are talking about a body lift...

okay, i'm not sure if i understand completely, but here is what i think is happening...

the bolts that hold the body to the frame have tabs near the head. while tightening or loosening the nut, those tabs will rotate until they contact the body which will keep the bolt from rotating while you tighten or loosen the nut. basically, its so you don't have to hold both ends while adjusting it.

now when you go to install the body lift, the supplied bolts will not have tabs, so you will have to hold the bolt while tightening the nuts. to access the bolts, remove the plastic door trim so you can fold back the carpet, and the bolts are under black plastic covers.

make sure to read this: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...er/index.shtml

EDIT: well, actually, when you go to install, you're supposed to move the tabs from the stock bolts to the new longer bolts, but only so the bolt does not fall through the hole. they do not prevent the bolt from turning as they did for the OEM bolts.

Thanks Garret

Thats exactly what I needed to know.
Hmmm..., I was hoping that I would not have to remove any carpet, but I guess I am stuck.

Thanks again.
