Fuel Filter Nut Rounded Off

Howdy guys,

I finally got around to changing (or trying to) the fuel filter on my 4Runner.

The dang previous owner rounded off the front fuel line nut! I went out and bought a 14mm flare nut wrench so this problem wouldn't occour, but it already did.

I tried a Vice Grips, PB Blaster, cussing, and nothing works, that nut is stuck! I could get more clearance by dropping the front driveshaft, but I'd like to avoid that if I can.

Anyone got any tips or tricks to getting the nut loose, and how to repair the nut/line?

Thanks guys!

If you think you can carefully use heat around there (something like a mapp brazing torch) then it's very likely to come apart. Or the reverse, try freezing the compression nut on the line with air in a can upside down.

I would'nt recommend using anything with a flame or heat. What I've done for our customers is to go ahead and cut the side that is rounded off and get a fuel line tube and flare the line for the fuel filter side and cut another 5 inches or so back and flare 2 more fittings back to the fuel tank. I can promise it will be a PITA but we charge 2 hours of labor for it so imagine what a Toy dealer will be.
