Frozen in gear?

First KC snow, and my 4Runner FREEZES in "D". What's up with this? Is anyone aware of any TSB's or recalls on an issue like this?

Have you crawled underneath your rig and checked the transmission linkage (it's on the driver's side)? Check to see if it's bent or if there is something wedged between it and the tranny..

Another thought, are you running regular or synthetic fluid in your tranny?

Nothing bent, thank goodness. It was frozen; I thawed the linkage with WD-40 and it's okay now. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Should there be a shield or cover or something over the linkage? This was a really stupid problem... Hopefully, just a freak occurance.

Mine does this when I drive through deep snow. I usually just pull the shifter harder, and it goes into the gear that I tell it to. Maybe if you spray it with Boeshield while it's dry? Or some other fluid that will prevent ice?
