About tech submissions...
As we all know, this forum has a powerful search function, and with that in mind I'm going to ask you all to think of write-ups in terms of either forum posts -or- tech/gear additions. Right now there is a shortage of (my) time and an abundance of overlap between the two. So if you have a mod or a gear related experience I ask you to share it as a post on the forums OR as a write up (and I can make a webpage for you if you dont have one for your write up) but not as both. Right now I am often tending to uploading informatin into Tech that already exists (permanently) on the forum proper. There is no need for all the redundancy. When I upload a write up I ALWAYS make a post on the forum to let everyone know, so theres never a concern that additions will go unnoticed.
Ok?
I thank you.
p.s. I'll soon have to catagorize the Tech section by topic as it is about at the point of outgrowing its current format.

While I totally agree with everything you just said, I also think it's important to think realistically about this. As we all know (most of us came from the Outdoor wire board), board archives get big in a hurry. Searches are, at best, slow but effective. Typically they are long, tedious, and only partially effective. I would imagine most of us have searched for something and gotten pages and pages of results. We sit and read though 50 posts looking for specific info. We also know that most people (especially newbies) won't search before they post a question. These inherant problems with the search make the tech/gear sections that much more important.
Again, I'm not in any way trying to disagree with your post.

Another way for me to say the same thing (as my original post) is:
"If you want a write up posted then dont short circuit my work by announcing it, linking to it, and posting pictures of it in the forum before I upload it. Take your choice."
Thats a more direct way to explain it, but you know, I always try to err on the side of politeness.

what I noticed
On a lot of boards, if I do a search for something, it also picks up that keyword in the signatures of people so I end up getting posts that have nothing to do with the topic im looking for. How can that be filtered out on this board if it is not already?

I don't think the search here picks up any of the sig files.
The search here on the forum I have used several times, and I find it's one of the best I have ever used.
It also searches across all the forums here, and not just the one you are on.
It's also pretty quick.
Now if I could only get it to find my wallet............
