98 2.7L 4Runner (Blown HG/Cracked Block)

My vehicle is a 1998, 2.7L, Manual Transmission, 220,000+ miles.
My Daily Driver!

I replaced some much needed parts on my vehicle about a month ago. Replaced: radiator (old one was cracked and nursed along for quite awhile),
valve cover gasket, spark plugs gaskets. It had been running excellent since doing the work on it until this morning when I started it and turned over very hard and began blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. All of my knowledge tells me this is either a blown HG or cracked block. My theory on it was after replacing the parts is was more pressure than it was used to.

The research I have done makes this repair sound very expensive around $1400-$3000 for a shop to do it and $700-$1500 if I were to attempt it myself. This would be the biggest job I have done if I were to do so. I also cam acrossed a product called SteelSeal, anyone have any experiences or knowledge about this product.

I am bringing it into the shop Monday to get it checked out and then go from there.

I thank everyone in advance that can offer any information, experience, or thoughts on my situation.

Do dont put the Steelseal...it would give you more problems.... Check you spark plugs. If one is wet, then you have a bad headgasket.

I went and talked to my mechanic and he recommended replacing the engine if I want it fixed right. His reasoning was if I were to rebuilt the head then it will most likely blow out something else in the bottom end. So I have decided to take a crack at changing the HG myself, I figure if it blows something else up I'm in the same situation that I am in now needing a new motor.

Any suggestions, trouble shooting, things to be aware of taking on this project?

Thanks
