4 link versus leaf spring SAS

I have been doing alot of thinking about doing an SAS swap. I'm trying to get my hands on an axle right now.

My thoughts were originally to go with a 4 link set-up because it is alot better set-up.......for the street and higher speeds. I have been doing more thinking about all of this and what I want my rig built for and think that leaf springs might be a better way to go.

I want my rig to be geared more toward rock crawling. I think that with a 4 link there is more room for damage to the suspension while wheeling. The leaf springs would not have the angle that the links on a linked suspension would have. I think at some point I would hit a link and bend it while out wheeling.

Now the simple answer to that is that I can make and keep spare links in the truck while wheeling. But it sounds like it could become a headache.

Can anyone give me some input on what they think about this? I'll be doing all of the work myself......custom. Also, what are you leaf spring guys using.....sliders or shackles?

I am thinking leaves are just as easy to bend. The advantage is the cost and ease of installation...

I run a SAS with 3 link coil setup in front, similar to the FJ80. Drives great, but has less articulation as a spring setup. The setup works perfect for high speeds and lot of bumps but my guess is that springs are better for rockcrawling.
The reason I did this SAS with coils now, is that I've been driving springs up front for over 10 years and I desperatly wanted to get rid of the harsh ride.

The only thing I now kinda miss, is offroading with my wife in a bikini top.

i'm toying with the idea of redoing my front end with radius arms and a panhard bar eventually, but leaves are doing the trick for me right now so it's more or less just something to drool over
