Would a 1998 5sp, 6cyl 4Runner have the exact same trasmission as a 1998 5sp, 4cyl 4Runner?

I have a rusted out 98 with a perfect 2.7 motor. I've found a 98 with a perfect body with a blown 3.4 motor. Both vehicles have 5sp manual transmissions. Can I just swap the motors or would there be more involved.

I can answer the 1st part, V6 and I4 equipped Tacomas and 4Runners used different manual trannies, the 2.7 would have the W59, while the 3.4 would have the R151F. From everything I have read the R151F is considerably stronger than the W59. I believe swapping a R151 for W59 has been done, so I imagine with some sort of adapter you could make it work.

 

R151f is a turbo transmission from the 22rte trucks and 4runners.

Transmissions are NOT the same. you will also need to move the mounts on the frame. change wiring, ECU, and all the things like cruise, evap...honestly it would be more worth it to put the 3rz in an older pickup or runner. See build in sig

 

keep the 3.4 in it, sell the 2.7 and get newer 3.4....

motor mounts are different, wiring is a lot different.... lots of work to swap in the 3.4 for the 2.7
