Looking at buying a green 1999 Toyota Tacoma ext cab sr5 with the 3.4L and auto at a dealership. Body is rust free except for several deep scratches, needs a new rear bumper and a new tailgate wouldn't hurt either. It's got 87,000 miles and i can get it for $8500. Does this seem like a good price? I was also worried about the rotting frames, but this one did pass the test. I'm thinking that a few more winters of salt could lead to frame troubles.

 

Look in marketplace. I'm selling a 99 Tacoma trd/4x4 for 5300.

It has 146k, it is a manual. Everything works perfect.

Unlike a dealer, I know my truck..in and out. I didnt just get it from an auction.


Also, just personal opinion. Auto's blow. An auto tranny will leave you stranded. With the exception of a clutch going(which you usually have ample warning) a manual is far more reliable. And replacing the clutch is far easier and cheaper than an auto.

true. thats an up side. My truck hasn't been in the rust zone. My tailgate and bumper are rust free.

oh OP, id say thats an ok price, but consider the fact your going to have to drop ~1200 $$ soon for a timing belt service..

 

Who in their right mind pays 1200.00 for a timing belt service??? That's crazy! Try about 350-450.00 including a aisin water pump for a shop that knows what they are doing! and thats at 85.dollars an hour labor.

Automatics, I would usually say do in fact blow.. BUT not the Tacoma. Its the best automatic I have ever seen, capable of unbelievable mileage. How does 250K without a repair sound? ( my girlfriends) or the detail guy down the street whose 2002 has 368K on the original automatic and it still drives perfectly! This transmission is also perfectly geared and responds wonderfully to the 3.4L... and this is from a guy who always hated automatics! ( yes, I am buying one myself as well!)

Price is good, just check the rust situation really really carefully.
