I figure I am going to drive this engine into the dirt, and it is getting close. I have been battleing this "lean" check engine light for a while with no avail. I have lost mpg to the point it is in comparison to my wifes 5.9L Durrango. I am now stuck using only straight 30 oil because otherwise I am losing 1 quart every 750 miles. However I have not done any mods to the engine yet, so I plan on this:
Drive this engine into the ground.
Get new 3.4L
Get supercharger
In the meantime I can still get the Downey HD coils and play with the exhaust. Get a stereo and speakers that fit the original locations. I can get the rack put on and possibly rear bumper. I don't have rock sliders, but I do have the Manik bars and I like those for now. They look great. I have the factory grill guard which I have always liked better then most of the ones on the market.
I know this thread is more a statement then a queston, but I do have this to ask:
Have I missed any crucial/fun things that I can do while I am waiting for my new engine?

How 'bout no, Scott...
I have never been much for nitrous. It doesn't give a constant performance boost and is more a pain then what it is worth.

Man, oh Man, those 3.0 are so spendy. The price listed above is low compared to $3,800 I have seen here and there.
I now know why so many people do swaps.
I don't think I want a used engine under my hood. Most of very limited if no warranty at all. I don't mind taking chances but, it gets very expensive if you loose the engine.
I have nearly 125,000 miles on my 3VZE. So, I have a few more miles before I got to swap or replace the engine.
I have decided not to swap in a 3.4 because of exhaust fabrication and tweaking to get in.
The 4.3 Chevrolet V6 looks like a good option because the motor mounts fit, there's an bell house adapter between the Toy 5 speed. It uses the original fuel pump and not much fabrication to get the exhaust to route to the orginal. The oil pan change would be an easy thing to do.
The computer and wiring will be the biggest headache. There is a company that sells both which is a good thing.
It's too bad i have a '95 Hilux cause the supra I-6 swap looks real sweet. It would be much harder than a 4.3 to install but, the rewards in HP and torque are there. Oregon emissions testing would frown if I did the supra swap.
I have also have plan B. A Ford 302. I like the idea of having the distributor up front and a narrow V-8. I would be going to NWOR for Ford stuff.
I will make my final decision in December '04. I have to the truck emissions tested.
Peace

I want to keep it as Toyota as possible, though. I would also like to be able to add a supercharger so putting in the 3.4L is the best option from what I understand.Originally posted by amusement

I picked up a complete engine, including alt, PS, AC compressor, ETC.... it was one of the used imported 30k japanese motors for $1550.00 from http://www.nippon-motors.com/index.htm
I've had the engine in for a week now and it runs great!
