15" vs 16"

If I have a 99 Limited 4Runner (came with 16" wheels) do I have to stick with 16"ers, or can I stick a set of 15's on it? Curious if I'm stuck with 16"ers.

Thanks,
aLostDawg

Your brakes are 13", therefore 15" wheels won't fit. However, Wheeler's Offroad claims to have a 15" wheel that will fit without rubbing.

Unless you go with Wheeler's wheels then you'll have to stick with 16ers, which is a shame cause the tires are so much more expensive for those...

Word of mouth claims WHEEELER's 15s for 16s did not work.

Arggghhhh! This seems to keep coming up every once in a while. Wheeler's rims will not fit on a 4runner equipped with stock 16" rims, at one point I had an email from him stating as much. The calipers aren't all that much bigger, but its the diameter of the rotor that pushes the caliper out a bit further from the center of the rim. I tried putting 15 inch stock rims on my 4runner just to check, but it was a no go.

This used to come up on TTORA all the time also. It depends on the wheels, but some 15" rims will fit the 3rd gen. You will have to use a grinder to remove a small bump on the calipers though. I've been thinking of doing this to my wifes Runner because the tires are much more expensive for 16" rims. A 31x10.5x15 is almost the exact same outside diameter as the stock 16" tires (265x70x16?) and about $40 cheaper per tire.

so is the only reason for going with 15" wheels for the price break?
