Difference in bump start and battery start

I've been having on and off issues of hot/warm start flooding and I hope someone can educate me on the difference between a regular battery start and a bump start.

Twice now - recently - I've had a hot start flooding issue where I could not start the engine with the battery. But, I was fortunate to be in a position where (after pushing the truck around a bit), I could get a rolling 2nd gear bump start. And that works almost instantly every time. I'm happy that works, but I don't understand why it does.

Is it just that the engine is turning much faster and clears out the excess fuel?

The answer isn't going to help out my problem, I was just curious. I can usually get it started when the engine sits for an hour or so, but till I find the culprit, I'm looking for downhill parking.

Argh! I put this in the wrong subforum, I meant it to get up in the main "86-95 Trucks & 4Runners" I can't seem to locate how to contact a mod.

When you are bump starting, it's the inertia from the truck rolling that helps it to start along with the extra cranking speed you get, that's why it works so well.
