Hello, I'm Austin. I just purchased my 4th toyota, and I decided to put a good chunk of change into this one.
Picked up a 1988 Toyota pickup Xtra cab. Unexpectedly came across it while going to pick up a title from a recent purchase. Being from maine, a Toyota in good shape is hard to come by, and one with a solid frame is slim to none. So I when I stopped to take a look at it and saw that the truck was from the south with a perfect frame, and very little body damage. ( minus body rot under the pedals ) I had to buy it.
Picked it up for 1000 bucks. It's a v6 5 speed, wish it was a 22re but I can always swap that out later. I want the project to be $5000-6000 build max. And road legal.
The bed is getting turned into a tube bed/cage.
I am unsure what I want to do for a lift. Been debating between the trail gear 3" or 4" Sas
Want to run 35-37s but don't want the truck to be massive, just sit good enough so I may have to give a little hop to get into it (im 6'3").
Also thinking if I go with leafs may be able to push the axle forward to keep it lower but keep good clearance/articulation.
What should I get? What compares to what I'm looking for?
Thanks! Glad to be working with another toyota again!
I am 6'1" with 33's and a 3" TG lift. I wanted to keep it low. I can clear 35's from the looks of things. 37's might require some trimming. Its a bit of a hop for me to get up into mine. I can still put one foot in while the other foot is on the ground. The wife has a much harder time. My front axle moved about 1-2" forward with the SAS. Overall I really liked the TG kit. Bushing suck and the bearings are cheap chinese garbage but easily replaced.
