Matrix rear hatch switch

Matrix rear hatch switch
'07 Toyota Matrix
Hey folks. I've been dealing with this issue ever since I was rear-ended. My rear hatch doesn't engage fully and therefore doesn't extinguish the courtesy light. I've limped by by switching the interior lights off entirely but if I don't drive the car for long periods the idiot light drains the battery. I'd like to manually bypass the switch but I can't find it. After poking around on the internet it appears that the replacement switch for the lights is a mag switch? Does that sound right? I've tried manually engaging the latch with a screwdriver but it doesn't extinguish the light. Can someone point me in the right direction. I'll even settle for an exposed wiring harness where I can cut or splice the necessary wires to fool the idiot light. Any help would be appreciated.
