I have a set of 16" Alluminum wheels I got off of my 94 Isuzu rodeo the center whole is to small to fit on my 1990 Toyota pickup. I was thinking of grinding out the center whole some how maybe die grinder has anyone ever done this is it safe?
And what's a good way to brighten these back up the finish is starting to peel anything to help?

 

I don't think I'd grind too much on aluminum, but then I'm afraid to mess things up. Perhaps you could measure the size hole you need and take them to a machine shop?? The machine shop could do a more precise job and lessen the chance of something going wrong. I do know that others on the board have enlarged the opening on other wheels to fit the Yota.

 

i dont think its too safe...especially on alluminum. if im not mistaken, the "lip" that goes around the center hole actually adds to the structural intergrity of the wheel, so without it, it can bend, or go oblong on you. not a 100% chance of anything going wrong, but better safe then sorry. just my 2 cents

 

Step 1: sell rims on craigslist
Step 2: buy proper rims from crigslist
Step 3: don't die because you tried to hack together something with a die grinder.

 

x2 on tofers suggestion. you can even post up an ad saying you wanna trade for a proper set of wheels. youll be suprised at what kinda deals people will make with you

Yeah I'm kind of in a remote location (a island in Alaska) so craigslist probably won't work to good. I still use them on my Isuzu. So I'll probably just buy some cheap spoke wheels.

We were thinking of useing a ruined 22re crankshaft as a leg and useing the wheel and a piece of glass as a tabletop. thought it might be kind of neat.

id go with that idea!!! i dont wanna be off topic, but my buddy used a bmw camshaft, and the pulley as an ashtray, the bottom (the part that touched the floor) was the mount that goes into the engine on an engine hoist with the studs cut off, then it was welded to the camshaft, and the pulley (where the ashes go) was welded to the cam.
