I am buying some BFG MT KM2s and I'm wondering about the warranty on 'em.

I know they have a manufacturer warranty but these particular ones don't have a mileage warranty. I'm also looking at buying them online and a few places are offering road hazzard warranties on the tires. Has anyone experienced problems claiming warranty repairs on their tires because of off road use?

Also I want to see if there is any 3rd party warranty outfit that will also offer coverage for the tread of the tires. Maybe I don't even need an extended warranty - I dunno.

What do you guys think? Do I even need one? Any advice on one warranty over another?

It has been suggested to me that maybe I buy the tires online and then within 30 days find someone local (tire shop) that will sell me a road hazard warranty on 'em.

 

the way I look at it is:

you will always need a local tire connection to service your purchase-to mount and balance them and rotate them and repair them and if possible warranty them.

Many times a local tire shop will match the best online deal you can find.

I use Discount Tire because they sell at great prices and then the local shops will match the best price. They mount and balance for reasonable and warranty the tire against a road hazard.

They stand behind their warranty-it is like $10 or 10% of the tire cost or some such figure. I recently got a brand new Nitto TG because mine had a nail in the sidewall unrepairable zone.

So see how reputable your locals are-you got the Les Schwab shops up there? Come prepared with printouts and prices. Make them happy to get your business and see what kind of extras they can throw in....

Mileage warranty is rare on off road based tires. Some offer it, but 40K would be pushing it. You can likely expect better wear than that-but not warranty of same.

Tires that the local guy will have in stock, I buy local for the service and the "warranty". Daily driver tires. In the long run you don't save any money buying online if you need someone local to help you out and don't have a local connection. Support your local economy. It helps to have "people".

Tires that the local guy would have to order, like trail rig only tires, I buy online. They are not going to be covered under any warranty anyway.
