1990 OM617 3.0 Turbo Diesel swap

Hi all i am NewToThis.

I have a question that i can't seem to get a straight answer so far. Any help is much appreciated!

Would i legally be able to register a 1990 Toyota Pickup 5 speed manual that has had a OM617 3.0 Turbo Diesel Mercedes engine swapped into it?

i am in California. The truck has Washington plates. And the swap was done in Oregon.

The seller states "Truck is now titled and registered as a 'Diesel' "

Please any help and insight.

Thank you all very much!

I've heard that you can register them in CA from someone on here actually. I believe they said it was up to the inspector and it must have all original smog equipment installed and functional, including an ALDA.

You are in California which means Cali smog referee has final say and they can legit fail it based on having to poop or not.

You need to consult the local BAR/CARB ref.
