Hey Christian long time no see... still looking for a tranny eh?... You might try a HINO shop or even a Mitsubishi Truck shop [Hino is Toyota heavy truck and sometimes other mfgs use the same parts suppliers or even build parts for each other].

Hey! Yes I am... the thing is finding a Dyna or Mitzubishi before the scrapyards dismantle them so I can see the gearbox number on the typeplate. Otherwise I have no way of knowing which model gearbox Im getting...

Well... I'm swimming in R451 gearboxes but have been unable to find the difference between R452 and R451... can anybody give me a clue?

No takers on the difference? I have between 5 and 10 R451 available costing about 1.400 AUD a piece. But still haven't found (what I'm looking for), the elusive R452... does anybody have an acctual picture of it? Maybe JD?

... Id rather use that as a ground anchor, the cummins that is!

I have been trying every possible route to find out what the difference is between the Dyna R451 and the R452. Yesterday I spend 1½ hours at Toyota looking at numbers and applications but that did not make me any wiser.
But falling asleep I might have had a small epiphany, I think the R451 is R151F gears in a Dyna box, the gearing are all the same!

• R150F 3.830 2.062 1.436 1.000 0.838 4.22
• R151F 4.313 2.330 1.436 1.000 0.838 4.843
• R452 5.146 2.780 1.509 1.000 0.838 5.035
• R451 4.313 2.330 1.436 1.000 0.838

So my thought is, just buy the R451 because it has cable operation. Wait untill a set of R452 5th sprockets turn up, and install the then. Then we will have essentially a R151F with a 30% overdrive in a cast iron casing.
Does it sound correct to you all?

I know its been a while, but i'm wondering what you've done with the build and if you've traveled the world yet?

The engine is in and some of the last work I have done on it was making a completely new wiring harness, which is 80-90% done.
The truck drives and have driven 25km's to our new house, which is the reason that the project is on hold; we bought an old house which needs a lot of work, got married, and there's a kid on the way, so no world touring yet, and nothing in the near future, plans and priorities change...
However the project is on hold, not cancelled! :-)

did you ever find an r452? I'm in the same process of looking and may actually have a part number of the fifth gear.

i know it's been a while, I'm a father now, nothing you can ever prepare for, got a permanent contract with job and a lot of other stuff has been going on, such as upgrading the old HJ45 with discs etc.

but nothing much on the Volvo though, It's still on my mind though, and a satisfactory solution to the gearshift have yet to be found.

I mailed back and forth with Marks, who told me that the cruisertransfer will not mate to their dyna-adapter, bummer!

But today i got a new idea; could I make a R451/2 - R151f hybrid?
The idea is to use the part of the Dyna housing with the shift, and part of the Cruiserbox which attaches to the transfer

To make the idea more easy to follow, i found a couple of pics.

As far as I can see it should be possible to take the front housing from the R452 Dyna housing - with the shifter mechanism - and attach that to one side of the middle plate, and use the R151f on the other side, but before I spend close to a 1,000 AUD I would like some second opinion, perhaps even from some-one who has actual experience in gearboxes, unlike myself! :-)

Yes, it has been a fantastic year! It hasn't left much time to build, but I'm not complaining though :-)

Just bought a power steering box on German ebay for the Volvo, looking forward to mounting it.

Any takers on the gearbox issue? I have never really taken a gearbox apart, so I'm a bit in the dark here...

If there is room for a large gear in the gearbox, it should be possible to rebuild the existing gear to a new gearing.
Currently, the solution I believe in most. But I are always looking for a better solution.

Toyota's part-time transfer can ther be obtained new gear with 8% overdrive of all gears:
