89 3.0 swap to 3.4 (Questions on my Options)

I've on the hunt for a 3.4 for my 89 runner that has a blown 3.0 with manual trans. I recently bought it knowing it was blown but it does run. I have several options for the 3.4 doner but only one doner has the manual trans and that doner I can't get the whole truck. Only engine, trans, wiring, and any of the parts I will need from it at the salvage yard. All my other doner choices are auto trans but I would be buying the whole vehicle. The 02 doner runner has the manual trans but it had a supercharger install at one time that is no longer there. I'm told it runs but I don't know many other details than that. I'm interested in this one because of the manual trans ECM needed for my 89 maunal trans swap. Wondering if an auto trans ECM will work in my manual trans 89 runner? I'm an electrician so I can make my way through wiring no issue. Thanks in advance

01 and 02 3.4 4Runners only came with automatic transmissions, it must have been swapped to a manual. Get the part number off the ECU 89661-????? And make sure it is in fact a manual ECU.

You can run a automatic 3.4 ECU and your swap will run and preform fine, but you will have a check engine light for transmission codes.

I'm not sure what you ended up doing since this is several months old with no activity.

If you're still on the hunt, don't discount looking for a 2WD truck (either Tacoma or T100.) They are more likely to have come with a MT than a 4Runner would have. Since all of your 4WD components on an 89 would be manual and not electronic, a 2WD ECU wouldn't affect your ability to actually engage your 4WD. That said, your 4WD indicator light on your dash wouldn't work (if you care about that.)
