Question Regular Maintenence and high mileage oil

What regular maintenence services do you guys do on your trucks, and at what intervals do you guys do them at?

I had been changing my oil every 3000 miles, but I read here that our trucks can go 5000 miles before the next oil change. I've pretty much just been following what JiffyLube recommends and it seems to have worked so far I'm about to hit 75,000 and I haven't had a problem yet *knock on wood*

Speaking of which, JiffyLube was pushing me to get high-mileage engine oil "recommended for engines with 75K or more miles" but I figured that I haven't had any problems, and I don't drive a Ford, so I don't need it. What do you guys think about the "high-mileage" oil?

$10 more. I asked him "Umm, what exactly is the difference?" He said something along the lines of "designed for higher mileage engines, cleans out the engine, and seals up leaks and stuff." "Umm.. Nah, it's cool. I'll just take the normal stuff."

High mileage oil

Ichange the oil in my vehicles every 3-4000 miles. My 87 Accord has 235,000 miles my 85 Toyota has 192,000 miles I had never heard of high mileage oil until about 6 months ago. I haven't used it yet and can't see why I need to, save your money. JMHO

Supposedly that high mileage oil softens up gaskets and seals and stuff and makes them swell to stop leaks. Some claim to remove carbon build up somehow. I'd rather leave the carbon right where is and not have it flowing all over the place in the oil. Not worth it at all IMHO.

I change oil at 5000 or when it gets to dark for my liking. At the same time I grease the driveshafts, balljoints and idler arm if I have enough grease on hand.

I change gear oil once a year in tranny, transfer and diffs. I checked the front diff last time I has doing gear oil and decided it was clean enough to use another year. I guess i'm not using the front diff enough.

I did this when you said you don't drive a Ford so you don't need the special oil. That's oh so very true.

Talking

75K is probably half-life for a Ford, but only about 20% for a Toyota. Save your money.

98 Ltd leaves my stable and 03 V6 Ltd arrives in a week or so.
