Question Detailing

I've read the threads on detailing vehicle exteriors and it seems that I've found an end to my search for a method to actually make black paint shine again. My question is regarding the rubber and plastic on the exterior of my truck. Do I need to tape them all up so I don't get wax, clay, etc. on them - leaving noticeable discoloration? Interesting tidbit on the Dawn detergent for wax removal. I had no idea. Being the cheaskate that I am, I used it for washing my truck every time. :pat:

If you want to take the time to tape everything up, it certainly wouldn't hurt anything. I don't worry about the black trim when I'm waxing because I don't let the wax sit long enough for it to do any damage.

Bio,

Yeah, buy a roll of masking tape and tape up the leading edge of your fender flares, esp if they are the textured kind (SR5).

If you have wax on the fender flares or any other part you want to remove it, peanut butter does the trick. Get an old toothbrush, put some creamy peanut butter on it, brush on the waxed area, and then rinse/whipe down w/ water. I kid you not. I posted this awhile back after seeing it on another forum/post. It works.

One more time: I'm not kidding!

Go to Home Depot and buy some 2" blue painters masking tape. It comes off better without leaving residue.

Second the peanut butter trick...it does work, its the oils in it.

Mother's Back To Black

Pick up some Back To Black from Mothers. Its just what you need to get wax out of the plastic and rubber trim.
