Back to the Dealership...
Just had the head gasket campaign done. Had to take it back the next day, seems the tech didn't hook up the knock sensor loom properly and the coolant was running out the connection at the timing belt cover.
For the past week, I've been watching my coolant resevior slowly drop, so today I notice a steady drip coming from the rear of the block. I'm thinking it's a cracked head or warped block, as the tech confirmed that they really didn't check these items
. Big surprise.
So, I just got off the phone with the service manager...my rental is ready for Thursday and I'm hoping that my new long block should be ready by Tuesday
Got my fingers crossed...
Seems my platitudes for dealer service may have been premature.

Well, the long block portion is still to be determined, but the tolerance is .0039 warpage over any 2" section. My guess is a little bit of warpage and maybe a cracked block. As I said, I've got my fingers crossed, for BOTH.
As for the rental, it seems that this is something decided at the Delaership level, and is not very evenly applied. However, before I took it in, I discussed this (and MUCH more...O2 sensor, oil and coolant change, knock sensor,etc...) with the service writer, telling him I'd been down this road before and I expected better, this time, even though I EVENTUALLY got the long block (different truck).
Now, I'm dealing only with the Service Manager. She approved the rental right away, for the duration of the repair. Last time I beat the crap out of 04 Camray for about three weeks. Drove it like I stole it. Two weeks later I rolled the Runner doing 60 MPH. Not even a scratch, on me. These are pretty tough trucks! Truck was a write-off and the new engine hydro locked, after being upside down and some insurance adjuster trying to start it up.
Anyways, seems that the more you know, BEFORE taking it in, the more you'll get out of the Dealer. And if you have a choice of 5 Dealers you COULD take it to, you can call around and see who's gonna give you the most. Tough to do, up there in Thunder Bay, but down here, I could take it to Peterborough, Lindsay, Clairington, Whitby, or Pickering. So, I called ALL of them.
While I'd really like that new long block, I'll settle for the job well done. Right now, the Runner is running like a top...best I've ever seen it, except for that coolant leak. Tech tells me the internals all look really good and that it appears to have been re-built, prior to my buying it 14 months ago. I'll keep you posted.
Greenrunner...any problems after you had yours done? Leaks, oil consumption, etc...?

nope, no leaks, or oil consumption, only problem i've had is an odd one, and i'm not 100% sure if its related to the work done in february. so far the dealership has been pretty good to work with, i've got no complaints.
