Another carwash stupid question, waxing...

How do you know when you need a coat of wax? My guess is I need one as I washed the "Criminal" and he isn't quite so Smooth meaning you try to rub his body and (without getting too descriptive) well my hand doesn't slither. I remember the day I had it first detailed, you could rub his body and it felt like a silkly, smooth feel, and my hand would just glide along, but now it's feels like after you wash dishes and try to push your finger on the plate and it sort of squeaks. <----boy all that description sounds really gay

Mohamed, most wax lasts about 3 months, and then it's time to wax again.
Some last longer.
The stuff I use (BOS) was still shining and beading water 10 months later.
Whatever wax you end up using, get a clay bar and some lube for it and so your entire rig with it prior to waxing.
Info on that can be found on my detail pages.
You don't have to "power clay" like I do with the Porter Cable. You can also do it by hand.
The clay takes off all the airborne pollutants and makes the paint smooth as glass prior to waxing.

Umm, well, to answer your question.. I wax my ride every month or so just to keep grime factor down. Plus, I always think it helps protect against the debre that is ALL over the roads in KC.. I know what you mean with the squeak factor, and when my rides gets that way, its time to wax..........
Chris
Yeah just an FYI, when you refer to your rig as the "criminal" and use words like "rub his body" and "glide along" we ALL start to wonder........

That's an accurate discription Mohamed. I'm going to clay my hood and roof today. I'll use my power buffer and then the Corey Cable.
I can feel the fallout only on my hood and roof (put a plastic 'vegi' bag on your hand...if you feel those tiny bumps...you''ve got fallout). I'm in the hot sun all day and my wax burns off in 5-6 weeks. It has a shine, but it's dry squeak. When I use all my old wax up, I'm trying the Griot's stuff...'cause Corey said so!

You know what, I just waxed mine a few weeks ago and the water does not seem to bead anymore. That was the first time I had waxed it in about a year. When it comes to wax, do you have to put on a few coats or just one. You know, like does the wax "soak" in and become less effective? I use formula 2001 and I don't know if it is a good wax or not. Anyone ever use it? What do you think of it? :beaver:

Mo,
I would recommend using Zymol wax. It is the best I think. But there are alot of good products out there. Most of these detail guys have told me this but I'm sure there are a few other good waxes.
