Gears for a 2lt on 35's

Hello everyone, my 87 2lt pick up sas is getting closer to be rolling. Duel t cases and planning for 35's. It will be a bit of a daily drive so I kinda was think of going 4.88 or should I just go for 5.29. Note im not planning getting super extreme wheeling with it just a good bush cruiser. Got my friends buggy for the really fun stuff.

35-37" tires means 5.29 gears, if you want to match the factory ratios.

in other words, i have "true" 37" tires(mt/r), and when i compare my odometer readings to a gps, it's very close to perfect... the speedo is off by maybe four mph.

Only thing I can see with the 5.29s is the high rpms on the highway. I know the 2lt is no race car so that why I'm wondering about using 4.88s. Also im going to hoping up one of my 2lt motors. A good friend is a diesel performance mechanic.

do you have a five-speed trans? true 37" tires match the factory speed and distance numbers, so the engine rpms would have to be pretty close to a stock setup.

35's with 5.29's will therefore be off slightly, but i'd guess that the rpms will be closer to stock than 4.88's with 5.29's.

we need to run it through a gear calculator, to see the difference.

it also depends on where you live... if you are on kauai or in colorado, for instance, 4.88 with 35" tires would probably not be a very good choice.

Yes it is a 5 speed, but being I live in the mts. it looking like 5.29's would be a better choice from what I'm seeing. Pretty much climbing mountain passes when in the woods where I'm at. Just was think when I am on the highway, but a 100kms is the max here.

5.29's

I've got a 95' 22r-e SAS on 35's with 5.29's. it pulls 55 up the mountain passes and does 70+ on the freeway @ about 3000RPM. I daily drive it and would definitely recommend getting 5.29's.
