1980 4x4, opinions?

So I wasn't sure where to put this but I want to get some guys with experience dealing with toyotas to chime in. I am personally a Jeeper. I have a 96 cherokee, with a small lift and 33s and I just like to keep it clean of damage, so I have avoided major wheeling. Now I'm looking for something to beat on and run large tires, 39.5s most likely.

http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/4208596699.html

So this is the truck I'm currently looking at, seems like a pile to me, but my buddy that has built a first gen and currently has a monster rock crawler on 42s says its all easy work and can be a great rig. The passenger side has some rust and dents on the door and fender. So I'm a bit iffy on this truck, or on getting one in general. My decisions have come down to 3 options, buy and build a 1st gen(Love the look of these trucks), build the cherokee. My budget for a toyota is gonna be kept low, this truck seems like all it needs is some body work, birfields and dirty 30s, and tires. Opinions or ideas?

You can spend a great deal less money buying and building something that's got the axles and driveline for 39.5s than it takes to convert a 33 year-old first gen into that kind of a crawler.

Personally, it sounds like a great truck, and it's better left to purposes that will leave it mostly stock than to cut up a clean builder and make it basically a truggy. but that's just my two cents.

Well I'm lookin for somethin that can be street driven when necessary. And Im not one with much fab skills to take something cheaper and in worse condition to build into a crawler.

Knowing how much I have dumped into my truck over the last few years I would say it is a good deal.

If you get it and don't like the wheels on it I have a set of black spoke wheels I would swap with your if you want
I am in the PDX area.

I would check the title to make sure the VIN#'s match. it says 1980 (should be round) in the ad but someone has thrown some 82-83 headlights on it...but common to swap...I did

Dirty 30's will come with the chromoly birfs

I also have a local contact for a lot of interior stuff if you need help finding it

Moving this thread to the buying/selling/advice/ gauging interest folder...
