1997 4x4, just bought, door handle already broke (passenger side), I have a 95 2wd, same issues, anyone know a good fix for this aside from the plastic clips?

 

 

Part of the plastic molded handle has a little dog-tab that engages the metal latch and linkage. Once you pull the inside door panel off, you can loosen the handle assembly from the door, but don't have to fully remove the linkage arms. I drilled a hole in the remainder of the handle and screwed in a stainless bolt, about 3/4".
I used stainless to go small diameter bolt, with good resistance to bending.

Pale blue is where the dog/pawl broke. Left the linkage rod in place.

Stainless bolt: take care with drilling pilot hole. I was lucky and just glanced the axis rod.

 

Great solution. I've had to replace a few of these handles. They are weak.
