Help with combo switch?
Hi,
First of all, I'm totally new at trying to fix vehicles so my apologies if any of my terminology is incorrect. That said, I'm trying to replace the combo light switch on my 1992 4Runner and have a few questions:
1. My combo switch has 3 wires coming out - 2 white and 1 red. Anyone know which wire is for what function? Are any of them a "ground" type wire?
2. The receiver (<--- case in point re terminology. But I'm referring to where all the various wires plug into and where the 3 wires on my combo switch will go) tends to have copper looking tubing in each hole where the wires go. From there, there are wires running out the back of that to what I'm assuming would be the various electrical components. A couple of mine do not have the copper in sheathing and there is no wire coming from the back end. This is the case with where my red wire for the combo switch should connect. Do you think that this is my problem, or did it not need that copper sheathing? I guess with this question, I'm trying to determine if my combo switch was actually bad or if the receiver/receptical is the failed part?
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the poor explanations.

First off there are more than 3 wires that connect to your combination switch, so are you sure that you are talking about the combination switch?
Receiver? You have a male side and a female side to every connector, think about human physiology and you can figure out which is which. Not all connector pins look like they are copper, most are tinned copper and they are a silver color.
The old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" would really apply here. Post up some pictures so that we can have a look at what you are talking about.
