Complete Rewire

So I'm tired of fighting the issues I've been having on my 85 4runner. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to just rewire the whole mess. I'll probably go with one of the Painless Harness for this.

I've been searching here, but was hoping to find a thread that explained the process. I'm not worried about the lights and easy stuff; but the fuel tank, EFI, and the more complex items that are possibly not built into harness worry me. Does anyone know if there are any posts, blogs, or other information that goes through the complete rewiring process?

Thanks in advance.

Some places that make new wiring kits for cars and trucks can actually make custom wiring harness kits for specific vehicles, you would need to call or email them and see what they can do for you.

Your biggest issue by far is the ECU. I need to go that route but until I get ignition I am not going there.

I have two cars that I am fighting electrical issues with, so I feel your pain.

Might be easier to get a donor rig and strip the wiring harness out of it and replace yours with it. Buddy of mine has to do that with his 91 crawler. Swapped it with a 91 4Runner (not quite the same but it worked) and his wiring issues went away.

X2. A donor rig will have the factory connectors. That doesn't mean you can't have Painless or some other company make you one, but it won't cheap.

What issues are you having? Are you sure the harness has gone bad?

i rewired my rx7 when i swapped in an lt1. i did it becuase of the complexity of the factory mazda harness and to get rid of alot of stuff i was not going to use. it just takes time and make sure you take alot of notes. i used the painless wiring fuse blocks and covered everything with sleeving from wirecare.com not as bad as everyone thinks
