1989 Pickup sometimes stumbles, lacks power, or stalls when cold
Sometimes, when I try to take off in 1st gear after a cold start, the engine lacks power, it wants to quit if I don't rev it up more than normal before I engage the clutch. Sometimes the engine will quit, and then when I try to re-start it, it starts and dies within a couple of seconds. I've checked the TPS and the AFM, no problems found. The switch in the AFM for the fuel pump seems to be working fine.
Starting and dying right away suggests to me that the fuel pump isn't running after the key is released from the start position, but if that's the case, it must be intermittent, and I wouldn't think cold starting would have anything to do with that.
I haven't tested the COR yet, but it only does this on cold start up, so I'm thinking it's not the COR. Once it warms up, even a little bit, I don't have any problems.
Can someone confirm that the ECU grounds, E01, E02, and E1 are at the rear of the passenger side valve cover?
Also, I'm pretty sure I've tried to remove that ground and clean it before, but couldn't find any tool that I could get in there with to break the bolt loose. Anybody found a tool that will work without taking the intake off?
I had a code 43 ( no start signal to ECU until engine speed reaches 800 rpm with vehicle not moving). I cleared the code, then test drove it, then checked for codes again................nothing.
Anyone got any experience or thoughts on this........................
Thanks
