1984 4Runner Battery will not stay charged

Hello.....I have an 84 4Runner with an 83 22R in it. The old engine was also a 22R. The battery will stay charged for about a week and a half and then it's dead. I have a new alternator, new battery and the 7.5 fuse is good. The guy at the alternator shop put a regulator on my alternator and that didn't work either! Is there anything else? Or has this ever happened to anyone else. Im completely lost...... I even tried running a hot wire directly from the battery to the alternator....... Help!

Something is draining the battery

You are testing the battery with a Meter to see it is really drained??

Bad terminals loose or corroded ??

The truck sits not being used and the battery drains

glove compartment lights are good for this staying on all the time.

stuck or failed brake light switch

shorted diode in the alternator

relay with stuck contacts.

Thanks Wyoming I'll check the brake light switch and the glove box light. I drive the truck everyday and my terminals are new too.

If you drive the truck every day your battery is not charging

Bad battery or alternator does not matter if the are new they can fail

You might want to figure out why .

Now if the grounds and the wire coming off the B terminal of the alternator have never been replaced might be a good time.

The 84-88 trucks Ignition is bad about not going to the Off position and letting the key come out thinking that you have the key all the way back to where it should be. Next time you take your key out of the Ignition, make sure that your clock is not displaying the time. You need to push the black button on the steering column to get the key in the Off position. With the key coming out before then is having several circuits energized.
